Portuguese Water Dogs for the Obamas?

So what are the Portuguese Water Dogs and why is the Obama family considering one of these dogs?

The Portuguese Water Dogs, also known as PWD, are a rare breed. In the past, they were on the brink of extinction, during the 1970s, but the population recovered and today they are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States of America.

This kind of dog can be really good for the Obama family, because the Portuguese Water Dogs don't shed, that means they have a single-layered coat and are fairly apart from most types of dogs. That way, they can be very well tolerated by people who suffer from dog allergies, which is the case of the 2 daughters of Barack Obama.

A Portuguese Water Dog has an excellent personality. They are loving, independent, intelligent, easily trained. They can be trained for obedience and agility and also make great companions. They are work dogs, meaning they work with fishermen (hence their distinctiveness as water dogs) and sometimes they are used as therapy dogs or hearing dogs.

The Portuguese Water Dogs can be a superb choice for a White House dog, a nice dog for change. ;)
